New Job,New Home, and maybe New Car

I finally take the time for my blog again. Yes we moved from Virgin Gorda,to Tortola.
Tortola is a beautiful Island,in fact its a big mountain,so that's where the new car fits in. We have a Toyota, that can't climb the mountains as it should,so we are now
looking for a more solid car, maybe a Mitsubishi pickup. But we here in Tortola are also affected by the world economic crisis,so Robert and I are looking how we will be able to buy a new car. Thank God we both have a job as teachers, and by the way,Robert will soon be on the same school as I am. I like the idea of going to school together.
Robert is an art teacher, and I teach biology. We found a very nice daycare for Facienne here, and she already met with the new aunties. She wasn't shy at all,and went to play on the mat immediately with the other kids. Facienne is walking now,she takes a few steps but isn't too sure so she gets on her knees, and crawls further.
I am sure she will be running soon!

The daycarecenter

Friday,I went to the daycare center where my baby will stay while Robbert and I are working. My mom managed Pre-school and a daycare center in Suriname for five years
so she knows a thing or two about daycare centers. She gave me a checklist and she said Of course the first impressions are very important especially in the case of a childcare.

The daycare center is located in "Handsome bay" here in Virgin Gorda, a very promising
sounded name for a neighborhood, and Yes,I had a good feeling when I arrived there.

My moms checklist:

The ladies were friendly
The toddlers there looked happy and healthy
The bigger children were playing outside,
and they were guided by one of the ladies
The playroom was clean.
The babies were sleeping.

Still I was very nervous today when Robbert and I brought Facienne to the daycare.
As I said in my previous blog,I wasn't sure how she would do with
the solid food she now had to eat,and would she cry,the whole day?
How much food should I put in her bag.It was so easy with the breastfeeding
I knew exactly when Facienne wanted to be fed,and I also knew when she had enough.
She just stopped when both breast were "empty" and smiled.
Now it was a sort of guessing game.

Well I just put all the food and fruit I taught she needed throughout the day.
I was thinking about Facienne the whole day,at my job.
Finally after work,Robbert picked me up after work and we went to get Facienne
from the daycare. My heart was pounding when we arrived, how did she do?

Luckily everything was fine when we arrived at the daycare.
She started crying when she saw us,but I wasn't worried,because I know
that some babies cry out of gladness, when they see their parents.
The ladies said she behaved very good for the first day,she played
and didn't cried at all.

Thank God

Baby meal planning

One problem of breastfeeding,is that some babies don't want to eat anything else.
This was the case with Facienne, she refused to eat whatever I tried to give her.
She just smiled and spitted it out. Well, not anymore. While she still clings to the
breast, she learned to eat yogurt In Suriname. I have to thank my sis Whitney for that.

Whitney discovered a way to give Facienne some solid food. This is really important
because I must start at my job in a few days,so Facienne will go to the daycare center.

Dressed up to go to the Beenie man show!

We still have a few days in Suriname, but our Holiday is coming to an end now.
We had a splendid time here in Suriname,we went to the Beenie man show, went to all the new restaurants Suriname has now, like the Log house, and we also went out to Commewijne a few times, where Roberts sister lives. Everybody was nice to Facienne, because she is so adorable:) We already have plans to have our next vacation in Holland, where we have
a lot of family!

Suriname

Finally we're back in our country,Suriname! I was really looking forward to this day.
It was a very long trip we left about 8.30 in the morning on the 12th of June and arrived 18 hours later in Suriname. Why? Because there is no good connection for people
of Suriname with the Caribbean countries. Suriname is very unique in South America.
Dutch is our first language and there are more than 20 other languages spoken in Suriname (we were a former Dutch colony)In 1975 Suriname became Independent.

Back to our journey to Suriname.
After Robbert Facienne and I had an argues travel from Virgin Gorda we landed in Paramaribo the capital of Suriname. We were greeted by my parents, and they were delighted to see Facienne after 6 months again. We were very surprised by a lovely
furnished baby room and lots of toys for Facienne. We're glad to be in Suriname again!

I am the Tooth Fairy

Well, not exactly, but I was the first to see the two small upcoming teeth of Facienne.
In Suriname it is a tradition that the first one who sees the teeth must "pay"
the baby.So I guess I am the one who has to pay for Facienne's 2 brand new teeth.

Every time I look at Facienne I feel that she really is a wonder. A baby is a small
person, I can see her own personality developing in front of my eyes.
She's getting bigger, she crawls, she sits and she still prefers to be breastfed:)

Soon she will get her homemade meal from sweet potato, chinese potato, casava, banana etc.We will go to Suriname for the Hollidays and there awaits a world of new things for Facienne. It'll be FUN!

Facienne dances dancehall

Today Robbert,Facienne and I went to the fotographer to take pictures for Facienne's
Passport. Facienne was in a very good mood, because when we go into the car,she knows
that we are going somewhere, and she likes sitting in the car.Well as always,My husband put on his favourite dancehall cd,and suddenly we saw that Facienne was trying to dance. Now we know that when she is one year old,we can make her happy with a dancehall party!

Facienne is now 3 months old

I am sure you already know the benefits of breastfeeding.
Facienne is 3 months old and she grows healthy.

Don't consider another way to feed your child except for strict medical reasons. If your healthy you owe it to your child to give it the right food and that's the food that's inside of you.The milk that your body produces, for your child.

POM

POMTAJER ROOT

PLATE WITH POM

In Suriname they say that birthmarks, are a direct consequence of cravings during the pregnacy, cravings for certain foods you couldn't satisfy. Well when I look at Facienne's skin I see some birthmarks, and I know I had lot's of cravings! for example
The most famous food of Suriname: POM,yes POM! I wanted the Pom so bad when I was pregnant. For those who never heard of Pom: It's a chicken Pie! To make the pom you
need pomtajer, and pomtajer is made from a root of a tajer plant. When my mom came to VG
she brought some and made the pom.As always it was delicious! But the damage was done:)
Facienne was already born with her (Pom) Birthmarks

Multilingual Facienne

Goedemorgen, or Goodmorning!!

Every time I greet my daughter I realize that eventually she will be a polyglot.
My husband and I speak English, Dutch, and Sranantongo, and some of my husband’s family speaks even more languages.
I think it’s important that since we are in a country where English is the main language we should make every effort to make that her main language.
At home she will also learn Dutch and Sranantongo.

Facienne babbling with her dad

Things are starting to get normal again in my household.
Facienne is two months old now and I have a grip on her schedule.
Whew! Facienne kept me and Robbert up till late at night.
But what do you expect from a newborn baby.
I went along with her and tried to regulate the times she
wanted to be breastfeeded. I let nature do his work,as my mother
suggested. And that was a good advise. Now she has a steady
sleep and feeding pattern, that allows me to get some sleep too.
I am glad that I decided to quit my job,to take full care of Facienne.

Feeding my baby

I breastfeed my baby Facienne and she loves it.
I am glad I don't have to run with bottles and stuff
to feed her. In her young live Facienne went to a few
"Big" places already. She was only a week old and we took
her to a buffet,at the famous Little Dix hotel here in
the BVI.Of course she slept through the whole event,
but I took her with me because my parents were here
at Virgin Gorda and they insisted I came along.
